The company, based in Melbourne, Australia, is the creator of FoodStorm, a popular hosted application that makes it easy for catering companies to receive and track orders, process payments, generate reports, and manage customer relationships. CaterXpress has long used Oracle Dyn's flagship Domain Name System (DNS) for its "excellent performance and reliability," said Anthony Super, the company's director and co-founder. But Super was initially skeptical about Oracle Dyn's cloud- based WAF—until he took a closer look. "At first, I felt in my mind that a WAF product from Oracle was going to be way out of our price range," Super recalled. "But after seeing the pricing I said, 'This is a really good value. It's actually a better value than the other providers we were looking at.'" Additionally, the Oracle Dyn WAF successfully addressed some tricky CaterXpress requirements that other cloud WAFs couldn't handle, according to Super. CaterXpress hosts customer-facing websites for all types of catering organizations — from small mom-and-pop shops to large grocery store chains—and many of those businesses have their own secure socket layer (SSL) certificates. "We had a technical issue with SSL certificates because even though we run one system, we present hundreds of domains," Super explained. "Many of the WAFs we looked at didn't handle that very well at all. The products we looked at were either way too expensive or didn't meet our technical requirements." Oracle Dyn Case Study: CaterXpress Customer Challenge CaterXpress needed to protect its cloud-based, customer-facing web application from incoming threats including DDoS attacks, cross-site scripting, and SQL injections. Solution Oracle Dyn WAF Oracle Dyn DNS Results The fully managed and cloud-based Oracle Dyn WAF is protecting the web application and providing CaterXpress with far greater visibility into the types of threats that target the business.
