Page 0 of 2 @dyn page 1 Overview Hundreds of millions of people around the world turn to CNBC for business news, breaking news, and up-to-the-minute updates. Like many other large websites, CNBC relies on a content delivery network (CDN). Dissatisfied with our rate of service, we started looking to see if we could improve this model. Our criteria was to: • Improve response time • Have better control over web traffic (real time reporting, change management, and alerting) • Better utilize our internal data centers and their infrastructure • Shield users from any troubles at the origin infrastructure • Be cost-effective After researching the market in 2012, I looked to Dyn, a company I had begun building a relationship with following a 2009 conference. At the time, they had started offering a geolocation load balancing solution powered by an anycast network. The distributed nature of that DNS presence was a key component of what we were trying to achieve: to steer users to their geographically closest origin point.
